Emergency Management Interns support the emergency management offices in Kentucky counties and cities. Emergency Management interns will assist in the emergency management activities of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery to protect the lives, environment and property of the people of Kentucky. These are unpaid internship positions.



Responsibilities:



1.Understand and be able to communicate the mission of the assigned Emergency Management office.

2.Support the activities of the Emergency Management office in one of more of the following areas:

a.Assist in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery planning and response activities.

b.Participate in the design, observation, and evaluation of emergency management exercises.

c.Work with federal, state and local partners to identify and assess risk and vulnerability of critical infrastructure and key assets.

d.Assist in ensuring first responders are properly trained, equipped, and exercised for disaster response activities.

e.Assist in ensuring Kentucky families, businesses, schoolchildren and special needs and vulnerable populations, have the information and resources they need to be prepared for the unexpected.

3.Assist assigned supervisors in general administrative duties such as completing reports; drafting, reviewing, and evaluating grant and contract proposals; assisting in evaluation projects or policy analysis; and conducting other office projects and duties as assigned.



Emergency Management Internships are available part-time (20 hours per week) or full-time (30-40 hours per week). Students will be awarded academic credit based on the total hours they work each semester in accordance with university policy. Applicants should indicate their interest in working.
