Job Description:
Computer Aides are responsible for providing proactive technical assistance to customers and staff in support of the public use of computers at each location as well as for the routine maintenance of all public use machines such as copiers, scanners and printers.

Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with use of computers and related equipment, including copiers, scanners and printers.
Maintain equipment by providing basic-level troubleshooting, re-supplying and cleaning. Report major technical problems to appropriate personnel.
Assist customers with use of software, particularly automated computer reservation system, Microsoft Office programs and templates, and various interactive online forms.
Proactively seek out customers to offer assistance. Routinely be mobile and have presence in the computer area and other areas as assigned.
Direct customers to basic online resources and databases or refer to trained staff as necessary.
Assist customers with verifying and updating account information.
Aid customers in using self-check equipment and refer problems to appropriate staff.
Hold customers accountable for following the LPL Code of Conduct and Internet Use Policy or refer to appropriate supervisory level as needed.
Respect the facility and work environment by keeping work area neat, handling minor clean-ups and reporting maintenance issues promptly and appropriately.
Interact and communicate pleasantly and effectively with diverse customers and staff who have varying levels of expertise with computers and computer software.

Must have the ability to:
Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with library customers and co-workers.
Troubleshoot equipment as needed.
Learn and adapt to new and changing technologies.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Effectively communicate both orally and in writing with customers and staff.
Understand the boundaries of job responsibilities and refer customers to staff appropriately.
Work the required schedule and help fill in schedule gaps occasionally.
Must have working knowledge of current Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office products and navigation of the Internet.
Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and follow standard library procedures.


Primary Work Schedule
Monday through Friday 9am-1pm
Applicants must be available for this primary work schedule and help fill in schedule gaps occasionally.



Job Requirement:
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school or GED and previous experience working with computer equipment and software. Previous employment working with the public preferred.
Must currently communicate fluently, both orally and written, in Spanish and English.

Screening Requirements
• Must successfully pass a background investigation
• Candidates will be required to fill out a basic computer skills assessments questionnaire

Must have the ability to:
Perform essential functions which require bending, stooping, reaching, maneuvering under furniture, lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs, and standing for periods of 2-3 hours.
Operate a computer keyboard efficiently.
Manipulate computer equipment and cords.
Work without sitting for a minimum of two hours, and during that time is able to move with reasonable speed to locations throughout the workspace in order to accomplish public services duties.
