Co-op Facts

Add'l Info
When students decide to attend college, both the parents and the students have an ultimate purpose in mind, to gain an education and to find gainful employment upon graduation. Cooperative Education is one of the programs that assist the university meet the goals of our students and their parents.

  • Approximately 40% - 50% of the students who participate in co-op are offered permanent employment with their co-op employer. They also receive more job offers from other employers.
  • A degree is no longer enough in today's job market.
  • Often students who did not co-op prior to graduation return to the Co-op Office seeking co-op experience as a senior with a degree.
  • Research in the Journal of Cooperative Education has found that students who co-op, upon graduation, have starting salaries that are significantly higher than non-co-op graduating seniors.
  • In the 2004-2005 academic year, the average salary for EKU Co-op/Applied Learning students was $9.15 per hour. During that period the total earnings for the 918 students participating in Co-op was $3,620,683.35. The salary range of EKU students is $5.15 - $20+ per hour.
  • All five colleges participate in the Co-op Program, however, not all majors participate in the program.
