Q: How can I qualify for the Co-op/Applied Learning Program?
A: Four minimum qualifications for participation in the Co-op/Applied Learning Program are:
- Students should have and maintain a "C" (2.0) G.P.A.
- Students should have completed a minimum of 30 hours prior to enrollment, except for transfer students who may be eligible after one semester on campus.
- Students must have the approval of their Faculty Coordinator in order to apply, prior to completing the application process in the Co-op Office.
- Students must successfully complete the Co-op Orientation (must score 87% and above) in Blackboard.
Requirements may be higher in some colleges or departments.
Q: How can I apply?
A: To apply for Co-op or Applied Learning, you must:
- Secure approval from your Faculty Coordinator - this will be sent electronically.
- Complete the application process in the Co-op Office.
- Schedule an appointment with the Career Counselor in the Co-op Office to discuss the job placement process.
- PRIOR to the appointment with the Career Counselor, prepare a resume and complete your Co-op Orientation. (A resume guideline is available at the Co-op website www.coop.eku.edu.)
Q: Will I receive academic credit for my Co-op/Applied Learning experience?
A: Yes, a student will earn from 1 to 8 credit hours per semester after working a minimum 80 hours per credit.
Q: Am I obligated to work for my Co-op/Applied Learning employer after graduation?
A: The Co-op Program does not require that either the employer or the student be obligated to continue the employment after graduation.
-- Generally, more that 40% of the students enrolled in the Co-op Program remain with their employers after graduation when offered the opportunity.
Q: How can I get a Co-op/Applied Learning job that will match my interests?
A: The Career Counselor and Faculty Coordinator will discuss interests and special skills in order to assist the student with the appropriate job.
Q: How can I get a Co-op/Applied Learning job?
A: The university continuously establishes numerous contacts with employers to serve as Co-op/Applied Learning sites. However, there may be a place that a student wants to work that has previously not been involved with the Co-op Program. Students in those cases are encouraged to develop job leads. Make sure you bring the employer's information to the Co-op Office.

A: There are no specific restrictions other than ensuring there is a job opportunity available for the student, and the Faculty Coordinator or Chair approves of the job.
